Pilates Instructor
My history with Pilates goes back to late 2003, when I first attended a gym-based Pilates mat class which was taught by one of the instructors from the Sydney Dance Company. Immediately intrigued, I knew this was a form of exercise I wanted to learn. I was drawn to the focus on breathing and controlled, precise movements, and the idea of lengthening tight muscles combined with strengthening the whole body. Of course the instructor had an elegance about him I could only aspire to (with my non-dance background and lack of natural flexibility), but since that class my passion for practicing (and later teaching) Pilates has remained strong. Within three years (2006) I had completed my Certificates in Fitness and immediately taken my first Pilates Mat certification so that I could teach Pilates in a gym environment.
The following year (2007) I left office work to work in the fitness industry, and have not looked back! I sought out a local Pilates Studio, Pilates in Parramatta, and started attending as a client initially to develop and expand my own Pilates practice. The following year I commenced the Ulysses Pilates training run by Vanessa Wood the owner, and subsequently taught part time at the studio when the opportunity arose from 2013 to the end of 2020 when the Parramatta studio closed.
Since then the popularity of Pilates, and in particular Pilates Reformer, has exploded and I am delighted that many more people now have the opportunity to discover the unique benefits of Pilates for transforming their body and their movement, not to mention the wonderful physical, mental and emotional benefits of connecting body, mind and breath.
Currently I am enjoying the opportunity to teach more Pilates to more people, including my Reformer classes and Private sessions at Kinetica. This is a beautiful studio environment for both teachers and clients, which enhances the experience of learning and practicing Pilates. I love the way so many people notice and appreciate both the feel of the exercises and the positive changes in their body, through working with the spring-loaded resistance of the Pilates equipment in a controlled and highly effective way. I also love the fact that Pilates brings so many people out of pain, transforming their movement and their daily lives.
My motto: “Train your body, mind and breath as one.”
